Fly Patterns for Patagonia
Some of the Aquatic Insects Species in Patagonia are very similar to what can
be found in the Northern Hemisphere, but trout and salmon have adapted
themselves to feed on local insect populations as well as other small
invertebrates and small fish. That's why some of the classic flies that you
might already be using, can be productive as well in these waters. But local
flyfishermen have developed a series of new fly patterns, especillay adapted to
Patagonian Fishes, always looking for perfect imitations of natural food, and
also searching for the right attractive combination that triggers the fishes
response.
This section is devoted to present some of the most productive flies in
flyfishing for trout and salmon in Patagonia.

designed after the most abundant Plecoptera species in
Southamerica.
- San Dragon. An interesting and very
effective dragonfly nymph pattern.

- Sando Sardine. Migratory fish roam
the southern fjords of Patagonia, and this streamer makes a great job
teasing them into hitting it.

Saltamontes Austral
Some of the most amazing dry fly patterns to fish
are Hoppers. Especially in hot summer days, which are present in
Patagonian Waters. Small to medium rivers are home to some of the
most agressive rainbow and brown trout which feed eagerly on
desperate grasshoppers, blown away from nearby grass fields when the
strong winds arise. Learn more here.
